Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week 2020 November 15 – 22.

November 1 – 12: Project Service Connect “To Go” – PSC targets individuals, elderly, and families who need services and/or who are at risk of homelessness and provides them with information on vital community resources. Due to social distancing guidelines and limits on gathers MVCHP is revamping the future of PSC Events to be “To Go” bags filled with resources, vouchers, PPE and items most needed by the clients mentioned. Over the next two weeks our committee will be collecting items (NEW hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, toothbrushes/paste, hand warmers and resources to fill 200 of these bags! If an agency/organization/group would like to donate items or if you have handouts you would like to provide, please make arrangements with Rachel to drop off your items by EOD November 12 at the Great Plains Food Bank 1315 20th St. S, Bismarck – 701.390.2513. Bags will be dispersed to Access Points and MVHCP agencies working directly with clients. See attached flyer.

November 9 – 13: “Fill the Shelves” MVCHP is partnering with all 6 Gate City Bank locations to host an area wide food drive. We are asking the community to donate shelf-stable items such as canned veggies, meats, fruit, soup, pastas, granola bars, peanut, and cereal. See attached flyer.

 November 17: “Homelessness and Housing Virtual Training” Presented by Money Follows the Person and Fargo – Moorhead Homeless Coalition. 1:30 – 2:30 pm

November 17: “MVCHP Volunteer Day at the Soup Café” Follow this link to sign up TODAY! We would really like to see the WHOLE day filled up by MVCHP member agencies!

 November 18: Missouri Slope Areawide United Way will host a social and Walk a Mile in My Shoes event. “We invite the community, our shelter guests, and staff to walk a mile around United Way's Homeless Shelter. This is an opportunity for community members to connect with and understand what someone is going through being homeless and show they care about the struggles and hardships on the streets. A bag lunch will be provided after. Location: United Way’s Emergency Homeless Shelter on 1140 S. 12th St. Time: Noon - 12:30 p.m.”

 November 19: Freezin for a Reason – MVCHP in partnership with the UMary PACS student organization will be hosting a Freezin for a Reason event on the boulevards of 12th Street and Expressway from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Flyer and event details to follow/ If your organization desires to participate in this year’s Freezin for a Reason, please contact Madison Gapp with the following information:
• Point-contact person with contact information (phone, email)
• List of organization members’ names that wish to participate (strive to recruit 10-15 members)
• The hour(s) available to “Freeze” at the event (ex: 10:00am-11:00am)
